4 Ways To Improve Your Business
There is no magic pill,
No spell
or no sorcerer that can improve your business.
When you’re in business you’re continually doing the following four things.
Why?
Because it’s what you signed up for.
And what I’ve realized is that the more you do step 4 the larger your business will grow.
Why?
You’ll see by the end of this post.
Now you know that you’re an entrepreneur.
You know that you have a lot of work to put in.
But don’t be fooled
The Google’s of the world had to do these very same things in order to make MASSIVE improvements in their companies.
They just call them different things.
They may call it R&D
or
Product Development.
At the end of the day, improving your business is basically going to help you improve as a person.
Thank goodness we’ve gone past the age where men think of their customers as just the money.
We’re in the age where we are recognizing that people are people
They are not machines, robots or any other inanimate object.
Which means people have feelings.
Step 1 is probably going to be the most crucial thing in improving your business.
It’s a point that many businesses have had to close up shop because they refused to improve in this one area.
1. Customer Service
If you are a business owner and you don’t think that you’re there to serve –
then please go find yourself a job.
[Tweet “I’m not going to buy a thing from you as a customer if I don’t get service from you.”]
And I don’t only mean the type of service where you treat me like the Queen that I am when I walk through your doors.
I’m talking about after care service
I’m talking about follow up service.
I’m talking about I don’t need to call you to schedule a service appointment type of service!
And guess what!?!?
As the owner of the business you’re also there to serve your employees!
Yes you heard me correctly!
Do you know why companies are ranked
“the best place to work!”
It’s not because of the salary,
the benefits
or the commute?
It’s because of how they are treated as people working for that company.
So if you are the business owner that forces a mother of three to stay at work until after 7 pm when you know she had to pick up her kids at 5pm
Think twice about your attitude of service towards your employees!
2. Quality Products and Services
Now this should be a no brainier. But sadly there are still people out there who think they can sell crap and charge for it.
I know people who don’t sell excellent stuff and I wonder why?
If the words “Made in Japan” now carry the meaning of quality, you better believe that everything you produce should be of value too.

Whether you’re a solo consultant, a business man with a store in the mall, or an online marketer creating products,
Do the world a favor and make sure you’re providing a real quality product.
What is quality?
I like to think of it as depth.
It’s something that takes me further than the dictionary definition so to speak.
So if I’m out looking to buy a really good hamburger, I’m not going to go to Mac Donald’s.
There’s no depth.
I may start at Arby’s or Ruby Tuesday’s
But eventually I may find myself in a fine dining restaurant.
If you provide quality products people will pay anything for it.
3. Customer Value
This is very close to customer service, but not quite. You have to value a customer’s feedback.
I’m not saying the customer is always right.
But do not be the person that never listens to their customers.
When a customer speaks you have to listen.
No questions asked.
It doesn’t mean you have to react all the time.
But you do need to listen.
Take their feedback and see how best you can incorporate it into your upgraded product.
See how you can include their feedback in your follow up service to them.
The Customer must be valued because they form an integral part in the growth of your business.
Lastly
4. Personal Development
Personal development is like research and development for Google.
It should be never ending!
You will never know everything you need to know, but so long as you still have life in your and you’re working at your business…….
keep learning!
I will add here too,
Attending live events is a great way to learn.
As professionals, Engineers, Accountants, Lawyers –
they all attend their various “societies” Annual events.
Why wouldn’t you as an entrepreneur do the same.
If you’re a marketer seek out the events for marketers.
If you’re a data analyst seek out the events for data analyst
If you’re an engineer seek out the event for engineers.
Never for one minute think that you know it all.

I really like what you brought out in point 3, regarding the difference between Customer Value and Customer Service. And Point 4, personal development is like R&D for Google – great point!
Very true Ruth, I think most people blend the two into one. Service and Value are two different things. And personal development is so important.
