Everyone in 2020 and beyond is complicating the simple.
Today I’m simplifying the complicated with these very easy to follow steps.
Now as you read this you may be saying, “Hilary that’s too easy!”
Go back and read the headline….. it says SIMPLE, not EASY.
Nothing worth having is easy…. but I can guarantee that it’s simple. That’s pretty much why you hire alot of people to do a lot of things for you right?
It’s not that it’s hard to do it’s just easier to hand it off to someone who actually thinks it’s easy.
So back to those 5 simple steps.
1. Set Realistic Social Media Goals
You probably started off this year saying you wanted to grow your audience by 10,000!!!! and now that we’re a little ways into the year you’re reassessing that very stupid goal and decided that I can’t do that unless I have a budget of about $5000 USD to spend on just building an audience!
Not to worry we’ve got your back! Realistic goal setting is ALWAYS a challenege for most entrepreneurs and business owners.
It’s because we over estimate what we can do in a day, and underestimate what we can do in a month, or year etc.
So back on January 1 you were full of energy and purpose and you said YES! I’m going to build my audience like crazy and you set a crazy goal!
Now you’re ready to sit down with someone who can actually help you set some realistic goals for your business based on where you’ve been and who you audience represents.
Speaking of audience that’s the second step in creating that powerful social media strategy…….
2. Understanding and Learning Your Audience on Social Media
Everything in marketing begins and ends with your audience. If you’re not paying attention to the audience then you are NOT marketing.
Learning your audience takes more than a day, a week or a month.
This is why I tell most of my clients when they come to me that you need at least 90 days to truly evaluate and understand your audience.
Then you’re better able to sell to them they way they want to be sold to!
Remember no-one wants to be “sold” but everyone wants to buy!
3. Watch your Competitors
When I was doing my undergraduate degree, I took a business class where we had to do a business plan and one of the components of that business plan was a competitor analysis.
So it really boggles me when I tell people today that you need to watch and study your competitors on social media.
It makes me wonder if they’ve ever observed their competitors.
You see there are good things and bad things that your competitors may be doing that can only benefit you!
You can either fill the gaps, or follow from examples. Now I did not say copy, but follow and tailor certain behaviors to suite your business style.

5. Create Content and Improve
You will find that once you know where you’ve come from it’s easier to chart a course to where you should go.
