Who’s ready to talk about social media reach!

I’ve got a joke for you ….. today if you want reach you either have to be famous or you have to deep pockets!

Sounds familiar? We’ve arrived at the Pay-to-Play world of social media. But it doesn’t always have to be that way.

In the video above and in this post we’re sharing different ways to increase your reach with social media posts.

Now keep in mind by doing these things you’re not magically going to have increased reach, but by doing them consistently you’ll see increases in your post reach.

So let’s get started with the list ….. and remember you can always watch the full video to get the details!

Post when your audience will see your posts.

Post at the right time, day of the week, the right time of day, that your audience is definitely going to be there. Now that can be tricky! How do you know when is the “best time” to post. Well each platform is different but here’s an easy way to figure it out.

Reaching out to new people and connecting with people.

So, many times on social media we’re scheduling posts. But what helps with the reach is that, for example, if you know you’re going to be going live, or if you know you’re going to be posting a video at a certain time, go into your social platform and start connecting with different people, commenting on their posts, commenting on things that they’re doing.

And that very organically starts to increase the reach of your posts because now you’ve been engaging with other people’s posts, and now your posts are going to get into their, what should we call it, stratosphere. So you want to make sure that, yes, your posts are going out at a specific time, the best time for your post, but that you yourself are reaching out to new people.

Use SEO where possible.

When it comes to getting reach, SEO, search engine optimization, is actually probably one of the best ways to increase your reach on certain platforms like Pinterest or YouTube.

Social media isn’t just about posting at the right time and making sure that you’re interacting and chatting and liking and hearting and all of that stuff on social media.

You also need to think about search engine optimization because when that increases your rank, especially if you’re doing search engine optimization on Pinterest, that’s going to increase your ranking on Google because Google is using Pinterest to piggyback as well as YouTube. So if you’ve got videos on YouTube and you’re trying to optimize for certain keywords, then you want to make sure that the activity of using search engine optimization actually helps with your reach in terms of other people seeing your posts.

Hashtag it!

Now, on the very social, social, what we call playful platforms, hashtags do the “SEO” thing very well. Now I don’t want to call hashtags, SEO because I may get chewed out by people like Neil Patel and other SEO “gurus”, but if you’re trying to get found on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, hashtags work very well. If you’re hashtagging, what you’re doing, in effect, is search engine optimization, but inside of their little bubble of that social media platform.

That’s all for now!

If you liked this post and video please comment below and share on your social platforms!

So when we talk about organic reach, it is not the easiest thing to work through, but there are different ways of doing that and we’ve talked about a few today Hashtags, SEO, definitely. Some of those tactics, those key tactics, understanding time of day, when you should post, and then literally just going out there and connecting with people and having a conversation!

You’ll see the difference a simple, “Hi!” , “Hello”, “I liked that shirt you were wearing in that picture” can make in your organic reach.

Go out and try it today.

Have a great one!

Thanks for the helpful information. I’m still at the very beginning of starting my blog. I could use even more about using SEO. I will definitely include hashtags in future posts.

Thanks, I fail to use hashtags and can improve a lot in the other steps you pointed out. I do need to get to work on my reach and this article is a good reminder to get started.

Hilary, thanks for some great pointers. I appreciate the distinctions you make between hashtag advantage in the playful platforms vs. organic reach in the others. Much to think about!

Have you heard that we should post blog articles 30 days in a row to get Google optimized?

    • Jeanine Byers

Those all seem like very important things to keep in mind! I need to learn more about things like when to post, an which hashtags to use. I’m working on improving SEO, too.

      • Hilary

That’s awesome Jeanine. Yes SEO, hashtags it takes time, but once you’ve got it you can adapt to the changes.

Thank you for the tips and I am Mentoring two new Bloggers and will be sharing your article with them. As well as making sure I am using the tips you listed on my own website.

Wonderful Glenda, so glad this post helped.

Thanks for this Hilary. Sometimes I feel like social media is mostly throwing spaghetti and seeing what sticks. Sometimes I don’t even know what’s sticking! Blech!

Social media monogamy seems to help understand what’s working–focusing on one platform since who can really be in all these places at once!?

Thank you for this–it’s helpful to break it down.

      • Hilary

Hahah Melissa, I know exactly what you mean! Social Media changes so much, but if you stick with the fundamentals you’ll start seeing results.

Excellent suggestions for organic reach. I’m still working on figuring out the whole SEO thing, but getting better and this Blog challenge has helped with that. Thanks for the information!!
