Some weeks ago on our #empteamonfire hangout we were discussing quite a few things about YouTube marketing and blogging.

One of the things that we also talked about was the fact that we were actually on this hangout masterminding.

Now let me explain.

I’ve been re-reading, “Think and Grow Rich”

Napoleon Hill describes an exercise that he engaged in quite late in the book.

The essence of which was that he used the minds of great thinkers, most of whom were already dead, at the time of him doing this……

But he would have these “mastermind” meetings with them in his mind.

One day he explains (and I am summarizing as best as I could) he got this notion in his head that this exercise was crazy….

He stopped the meetings almost immediately……

Then naturally his problem solving skills started to diminish….

He was not able to think of new ideas or get over challenges

Then he had what he thought was a dream of one of the members of his mastermind group coming to him and saying that he needed to restart the meetings….

…. or else…..

Or else he would have never achieved his goal.

You really have to read the book to understand the essence of it.

I have mirrored his experience to that of St. Joseph when the angel told him to take Mary for his wife…. and again when the angel told him to get up and take the child and his mother to Egypt.

Sometime these experiences whether a dream or of divine nature  {naturally I’m not here to debate what these experiences are called.} are what propel us to do something dramatic that will make us take action.

But we understand the importance of the having someone to bounce ideas off of.

We understand that we can’t do anything alone.

We need guidance

We need support

We need other people’s opinion…..

Napoleon Hill had many mastermind groups. Some real and other imaginary.

They all served a purpose in his life and in him being able to achieve his life’s mission.

If you want to be a successful businessman then who do you think you should surround yourself with?

Your friends and family who know not a damn thing about business?

Or other like minded folks.

Other successful businessmen.

I think the answer is obvious.

But not so easily practiced.

I have experienced countless people complain about their lack of success in business in one form or another.

My first question of late has been –

Who do you have helping you?

Who do you have helping you develop your business?

I’d be very real with you – I don’t have a lot of friends. That is because I choose my friends very wisely.

I choose my friends based on the goals of my life.

I want to be a good mother – so I will surround myself with good mothers.

I want to be a good wife – so I will surround myself with good wives.

I want to be a successful online marketer – so I surround myself with successful online marketers.

My coach Tim Erway has said this a million times to us in our trainings  which speaks to how to achieve your goals in life,

Maybe we need to just refine that, because everyone’s experience is going to be different, but the essence of this saying is quite simple.

Success doesn’t have to be as hard as we make it out to be.

If you just surround yourself with the people who will help you along the way in a mastermind group then you will have the same, similar or even better success.

And you will find yourself naturally wanting to give back because of all that you’ve learned.

That’s the power of masterminding.

You give and receive and you learn and grow.
