Plan B

So as a mom I know things never go the way you plan.

As an engineer I try to plan for every conceivable option.

I have always been a notorious planner.

I hate not having an alternative,

but since becoming a mom and starting my own business online I’ve realized more and more that Plan B need to take effect.

Plan B isn’t necessarily a “back up” to plan A.

Sometimes it’s a completely NEW  Plan A

What do I mean by that.

Working from home as a mother has its challenges as you will imagine. (and I only have one child so far)

But it can get difficult trying to manage different aspects of your life.

I will say however that being a wife and mother are probably the two best things that can prepare you for business. (sorry guys)

I bring my engineering skills to bear in my business everyday, but more and more I’m seeing how my business helps with my mothering and how mothering helps with my business.

If your daughter doesn’t want to eat what’s in front of her what do you do?

Leave it there for her to eat?

Or do you go and get something else?

Well the old school thinking is leave it right there – eventually she’ll eat it.

Now we all know that that scenario rarely happens. But bringing more of the same isn’t going to help either.

For example – if I gave my daughter mashed potatoes to eat and she didn’t want it – I’m not going to bring her potato salad.

That would be a more of the same scenario.

No I’m going to bring her macaroni or pumpkin or tomatoes.

You see how it should be something different.

The same thing applies with your business.

I’ve had to implement many plan B’s recently with all the technology challenges I’ve been having.

So what do you do when the activity you planned to get done at this moment can’t happen?

You move on to other activities that can be accomplished.

Like doing your personal development.

Writing blogs in a book, or maybe on another machine.

Drafting emails.

Creating Lead magnets

Creating Training Videos.

If one activity isn’t going as planned then you need to shift and work on something else.

Don’t worry about what you are missing out on.

Just think about what you are gaining by performing another task.

I hope this was helpful for you today in managing your work even as other things crop up in your life.

I love the idea that Plan B might actually be a completely new Plan A. Great insight! Thanks for sharing these helpful points.

Thank you for sharing this uncomfortable truth. Life will rarely go as planned, and when it comes to parenthood you will have to release your expectations. Having a child with special needs taught me that lesson the hard way, but even without kids- things won’t always go as planned. It is just life.
